From first conversation
to proposal.

    Before the consultation

    Share the timeline, budget, preferred diamond shape, natural or laboratory-grown preference, and anything she has saved. Screenshots count. So does saying, “She likes simple things, but not boring things.”

    The Diamond Table

    Compare loose center diamonds side by side under magnification. Choose the diamond, or narrow it down enough that the decision no longer feels theoretical.

    Live Collaborative CAD Design

    Watch the custom engagement ring take shape in real time. Refine the band, setting height, gallery, prongs, halo, side stones and wedding-band fit while you are in the room.

    Approval and production

    Once the design is right, you approve the CAD and the piece moves into our workshop. Most custom engagement rings require approximately four to six weeks after final approval.

    The handoff

    You receive the engagement ring, the diamond report when applicable and an insurance appraisal. If the proposal date is fixed, tell us early. We enjoy a deadline. We enjoy it more when we know about it.

A single center diamond with nowhere for proportion or finish to hide. Four prongs, six prongs, cathedral shoulders, low profile, knife edge, rounded band—the details are the design.

Subtle Detail

Hidden halo engagement rings

A row of accent diamonds beneath the center stone, visible from the side rather than the top. It adds detail without changing the face-up outline of the ring.

Pavé and halo settings

Choosing the Center Diamond

The number on the report
is not the ring.

Carat weight is mass, not visual size. A deep diamond can hide weight underneath the setting where nobody sees it. An elongated oval, radiant or cushion can spread more of its weight across the face and appear larger than a round of the same carat weight.

Cut quality affects brightness, fire and scintillation. It is the part you notice from across a table. A beautifully cut smaller diamond can outperform a larger diamond with weak proportions in every light in the room.

Clarity matters until the diamond is clean to the eye. Beyond that, you may be paying for characteristics visible mainly on paper. Color matters differently by shape, metal and personal sensitivity.

And yes, price thresholds around one, one-and-a-half and two carats are real. A 1.90-carat diamond may look nearly identical to a 2.00-carat diamond and cost meaningfully less. Nobody has ever identified a center stone to two decimal places from across a dinner table.

Natural or Laboratory-Grown

Different economics.

Natural and laboratory-grown diamonds can both become exceptional engagement-ring center stones. They solve different priorities.

Laboratory-grown usually provides more visible size, color and clarity within a fixed budget. Natural offers geological rarity, a more established secondary market and stronger heirloom appeal for clients who value origin and future marketability.

We explain the future-value conversation plainly because it matters. Laboratory-grown prices have faced substantial downward pressure. Natural diamonds are not guaranteed investments either, but they have a more established market history.

Neither choice makes the proposal more meaningful. The right choice is the one that aligns with the budget, the wearer and what you expect the center diamond to represent later.

What a Custom Engagement Ring Costs

Where the money goes.

The center diamond is usually the largest variable. The setting price depends on metal, construction, accent diamonds, engraving, side stones and the amount of bench work involved.

The ranges below are planning numbers, not promises carved into stone. Metal prices, diamond prices and design complexity change. You receive a firm quote before production begins.

Before You Propose

A few things worth
getting right.

The ring size. Borrowing a ring from the correct finger is ideal. Asking a friend can work. Guessing based on height has the scientific reliability you would expect.

The timeline. Most custom engagement rings require four to six weeks after final CAD approval. Complex engraving, unusual stones or holiday timing may take longer.

The lifestyle. A low-profile engagement ring may suit someone who works with gloves or uses her hands all day. A very high center setting is dramatic. So is catching it on everything you own.

The wedding band. Decide early whether the band should sit flush. Some engagement-ring profiles require a contoured wedding band, which is perfectly fine when it is intentional.

The insurance. The finished ring should be insured promptly. We provide an appraisal and the center-diamond report when applicable.

How much does a custom engagement ring cost?

The setting commonly begins around $1,500 and can exceed $8,500 depending on metal, complexity, accent diamonds, side stones and hand work. The center diamond is the larger variable. Complete custom engagement rings vary widely, so we provide a firm quote before production begins.

Is a custom engagement ring more expensive than a ready-made ring?

Not automatically. You are still paying for metal, diamonds, labor and craftsmanship. Custom costs more when the design itself requires more work, not simply because the word custom appears in the description.

How long does a custom engagement ring take?

Most custom engagement rings require approximately four to six weeks after final CAD approval. Intricate filigree, hand engraving, unusual stone sourcing or complex construction may require additional time.

What happens during an engagement ring consultation?

You discuss the wearer, style, budget and proposal timeline; compare loose natural and laboratory-grown diamonds at the Diamond Table; and begin the design through Live Collaborative CAD Design. The consultation is private and typically lasts about ninety minutes.

Do I need to know exactly what engagement ring style I want?

No. Bring saved photos, screenshots, a Pinterest board or nothing at all. We can usually identify the common details behind the images someone likes and use those preferences as the starting point.

Can I design the engagement ring without my partner knowing?

Yes. Many engagement-ring consultations are confidential. Appointment details go only to the contact information you provide, and nothing is sent to a shared address unless you request it.

Can we design the engagement ring together?

Yes. Many couples prefer to choose the diamond and design the ring together while keeping the timing and details of the proposal private. It often produces a better ring and still leaves plenty to surprise.

Can I use a diamond or gemstone I already own?

Yes. We can inspect an existing diamond or gemstone, discuss whether it is suitable for resetting and design a new engagement ring around it when appropriate.

Can I choose between natural and laboratory-grown diamonds?

Yes. Both are shown side by side at the Diamond Table. We explain appearance, grading, price, rarity, future value and the tradeoffs of each without pushing one category.

What is Live Collaborative CAD Design?

It is the in-person part of the design process where you see the engagement ring model on screen and participate in changes to the band width, setting height, gallery, halo, side stones, prongs and overall proportions before production.

Can the engagement ring be designed for a future diamond upgrade?

Sometimes. If a larger center diamond is part of the long-term plan, tell us during the consultation. We can explain which setting structures are more adaptable and where a future change would require rebuilding the ring.

What metals are available?

Common options include platinum and 14k or 18k yellow, white and rose gold. The best choice depends on color preference, wear, maintenance expectations, design and budget.

Will the wedding band sit flush with the engagement ring?

It can, if the engagement-ring profile is designed for it. Low baskets, protruding galleries and some halo structures may require a contoured wedding band. We can show the fit during CAD rather than discovering it after the wedding band is purchased.

Do you provide an appraisal and diamond report?

Yes. The finished custom engagement ring includes an insurance appraisal, and independently documented center diamonds include the applicable laboratory report.
